it’s almost midnight in Paris, France and the line is packed for the weekly Mo Diamondz “So Sexy” party. Inside DJ Camro is warming up the crowd with a mix of West Indian and African rhythms until hometown favorite, DJ Just Dizle, steps up to the ones and twos.
“I was thinking Vous allez peter un cable,” says Dizle. “Which means “I’m gonna drive y’all crazy and break your ankles tonight.” He starts the set by warming up the ladies with dancehall and R&B classic gems like Nuttin Nyce’s “Down 4 Whateva.” With the ladies “oohing and ahhing” as they rush to the dancefloor the fellas shortly follow.
At 2:30 am he jams the dance floor with a mix of hip-hop classics and recent club bangers like The Game’s “Put You On The Game” and Biggie’s “Kick in the Door” smoothly mixed into the Pharcyde’s “Drop.” Folks are sweaty and their throats are clearing as they chant along to his scratches, cuts, and blends. Just Dizle goes back and forth across the Atlantic mixing in “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It” by Dem Franchize Boyz with “Ouais Ouais,” a joint from French rapper Booba. “We got good local talents and we are inspired by American hip-hop,” Dizle explains. “So since I’m from France I mix it to show love to local rappers too.”
After passing the tables back to Camro for a quick breather, Dizle returns to rock a medley of R&B, disco, and funk.“I liked the atmosphere because it wasn’t the usual Paris crowd,” says Just Dizle. “In Paris we like to floss too much, but this crowd was hype. I was sick before the show, but when I got behind the tables it was like some Matrix shit. I’m Neo dodging bullets, nothing can stop me from playing.” .
