Pete Rock takes some portable turntables for a spin.

Pete Rock’s classic soulful/jazzy breaks have inspired legions of fans. His eagerly awaited new joint, Soul Survior 2, hits the streets May 18th. The all-star line up includes a reunion with his old partner in crime, C.L. Smooth, as well as appearances from dead prez, RZA, GZA, Talib Kweli, and Pharoahe Monch to name a few.

Pete has been one of the key beatdiggers in hip-hop for well over a decade. So it only seemed right to have him be the go-to man when checking out the newest in portable turntables. No serious crate-digging expedition would be complete without the portable to help sniff out the elusive beats locked in some obscure dusty grooves. While the Fisher- Price Big Bird player is a classic workhorse, it’s time for the portable player to move into the 21st century. Both Vestax and Numark have taken on the challenge with two sleek new machines. Pete took them out for a test drive and here’s what he had to say…
