“Diamond D, that’s my dog,” says DJ Scratch who produced “New York Shit,” the Big Apple’s newest anthem. “It’s just a loop, there’s no chop or nothing. That’s how the record starts.” When Diamond’s Stunts Blunts and Hip-Hop was released in ’91 Scratch was on tour with EPMD, so he knows about reused samples. “EPMD is the most sampled group in hip-hop. Without ‘Ain’t No Nigga’ (which samples ‘Seven Minutes of Funk’ heard on ‘It’s My Thing’) there is no Jay-Z.” And Diamond has given the track his dusty thumbs up. “It felt good to know that my ear stands the test of time,” he says proudly.
