“Diamond D, that’s my dog,” says
DJ Scratch who produced “New
York Shit,” the Big Apple’s newest anthem. “It’s just a loop, there’s
no chop or nothing. That’s how
the record starts.” When Diamond’s Stunts Blunts and Hip-Hop was released in ’91 Scratch was on
tour with EPMD, so he knows
about reused samples. “EPMD is
the most sampled group in hip-hop. Without ‘Ain’t No Nigga’ (which
samples ‘Seven Minutes of Funk’
heard on ‘It’s My Thing’) there is
no Jay-Z.” And Diamond has given
the track his dusty thumbs up. “It felt good to know that my ear
stands the test of time,” he
